MAMA DUCK DELAYED
The World’s Largest Duck, Mama Duck, was injured by damaging winds yesterday in Chicago, and her visit to KC Metro had been delayed.
The person in charge of bringing Mama Duck to KC is Donna Veatch, R7HSA Director of Executive Services.
I contacted Donna for an interview to discuss her vision and her story of how she was able to to bring the World’s Largest Duck to KC Metro.

Donna gave me the disappointing news late Sunday evening: “ I am very disappointed to share that I just received a call from Mr. Samborski, owner of the World's largest Rubber Duck, who was calling to say Mama Duck was damaged last night while on display at a festival in Chicago in what they think was a microburst. He reported that it does not look like they will have the damage repaired before the end of this week.”
“I really appreciate your interest in joining us this week to take pictures of the Duck and gain information on the back story of why we were bringing the Duck to our area, however I am sad to say the Duck will not be here for a photo opp.”
“We hope to reschedule Mama Ducks visit, however, not sure at the moment if or when that visit might occur. Again, thank you so much. Happy to share the story behind the "almost" visit at some point in the near future—really want to keep the momentum moving forward in spotlighting early childhood education and the ECE workforce crisis.
Sincerely,
Donna Veatch”

Mama Duck’s injury is a lesson to all of us that just when you get your ducks lined up in a row… life happens and someone gets out of line. What happens next is a test of our heart and determination.
Donna Veatch shared with me this Monday morning: “Headed down to set up and be ready to greet folks as they come through the registration line. The good news is they all have a little rubber duck in their conference bag just waiting to be seen and put a smile on their face. Looking forward to meeting up with you.”
I’m praying that the countdown to the time Mama Duck waddles or floats into KC will keep citizens in the KC Metro aware of Donna’s desire to shine a light on the importance of early childhood education and the shortage of teachers in early childhood education.

I will be anxiously waiting to take a selfie with Mama Duck.
