HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GLORIA ❤️

STORIES FROM THE HEARTLAND TRIBE

G L O R I A

❤️ June 4th is my little sister, Gloria’s birthday.  I am the first born of the four Bush kids, born fifteen minutes after  Independence Day, 1949.  Gloria was born in 1951, Bret in 1958, and our baby brother, Terry, was born in 1961.

❤️ My cousin, Tandra, (who is like a sister to us) and Glo and I used to dance and wave and the fraternity boys whose frat house was across the street from our house at 311 Arthur Street in Liberty, Missouri.

❤️ Mom put an inflatable pool in the side yard.

❤️ We loved it when Granny Lucille took us swimming at a salt water pool in Excelsior.  It was called something like Lake Myer in Excelsior Springs.
One summer I got so dark from being outside I was turned away from sitting in the WHITE area of Liberty’s Plaza theater.  I was told to sit in the BLACK area in the balcony. Must be my American Indian heritage on my daddy’s side of the family.  Daddy was dark, too.  The owners of the Plaza Theater lived next door to Granny Lucille in Liberty’s Historic District on West Franklin Street.  Granny Lucille let them have it about what they did to her granddaughter.  You know, I got a tiny glimpse of racial discrimination and GOD used it to teach me what my two Chinese/American daughters  would feel like when they receive hate speech.   Let’s be the one to come to other’s defense in the face of hate speech.  TELL THE OTHERS.

❤️ Today, on Glo ‘s birthday, I’m singing “GLORIA” and remembering my glamorous little sister.

❤️ Sing along with me!

❤️

Gloria’s favorite flower fragrance was gardenia - the same as our mother.  Since I already named Mom (Natalie)’s signature fragrance GARDENIA, I asked Glo to choose another.  She chose Cherry Dr. Pepper months before she went to heaven.

❤️ I mailed Glo’s family 2022 Christmas package early to California.  It included her signature fragrance (CHERRY DR. PEPPER); Granny Lucille’s (BAKED APPLE PIE); Mom’s (Natalie/GARDENIA) and Dad’s  (JEWELL/ WOOD SHOP).

❤️ Mom’s Signature Fragrance:  NATALIE, GARDENIA

❤️. Granny Lucille’s Signature Fragrance:
BAKED APPLE PIE.
She owned and operated
the Highway BBQ in Liberty (Mill Street)
and baked at the least 20 pies every single day!
❤️ Of course I chose
BAKED APPLE PIE
for her signature fragrance!

❤️ Gloria’s signature fragrance:
CHERRY DR. PEPPER

❤️

Gloria’s signature fragrance,
CHERRY  DR. PEPPER,
is my great-granddaughter,
Rosie Jewell’s favorite
HEARTLAND TRIBE
fragrance.

❤️

❤️ Christmas 2022,  I made signature perfumes and named them to honor seven generations of people I have loved  in our family tribe.

❤️ Glo’s daughter, Lacy, made sure Glo smelled all the fragrances even though Glo was in and out of consciousness.  Lacy also shared Cherry Dr. Pepper is her favorite!

❤️ Gloria’s signature fragrance includes GLITTER.  I had to add it.  Gloria Lynn was all about glitz and glamour.  Even her pj’s were silk.

❤️ Granny Lucille made Easter outfits for us:
dresses, coats and hats!

❤️ 2022 ❤️ GLITTER kept showing up up in the most random places since Glo went to heaven on November 28, my wedding anniversary.  Even my granddaughter, Megan Jewell, saw GLITTER in her living room in Pennsylvania that very day.  I found one little piece of little square GLITTER falling from the ceiling in front of my face as I looked in the mirror just seconds after Lacy told me Glo passed.  The next evening there was one little square GLITTER on my sheet as I got into bed.

I do not think Glo is hovering or haunting me even in a good way.  I believe what the Bible says “absent from the body - present with the Lord.”

❤️ I do think God gives us beautiful ways to remember those we love while we are separated.  For me, when I see GLITTER I think of Gloria, and it makes my heart joyful.  Her signature fragrance, Cherry Dr. Pepper, had to have GLITTER.

❤️ THANKS FOR STOPPING BY.
❤️ COME BACK OFTEN AND INVITE YOUR FRIENDS.

Always Grateful.
Always Learning.
Flawed but Fabulous.
❤️ Mary Marcia
